Publishing House Bed & Breakfast is open for business in the West Loop! On Wednesday, June 7, the folks who run the unique, eleven-room B&B opened their doors for a house-warming party.
Neighbors of West Loop had a chance to have a quick Q & A with one of the proprietors, Shawn Uldridge:
What do you believe is special about the West Loop?
While Kimberly (Shawn’s wife, who also will be living on-site!) is from Wisconsin, I am from Australia. We lived in Melbourne prior to moving back to Chicago to open this B&B. I managed a small equities trading and investment firm until 2013, and Kimberly owned a vintage furniture shop called Mint and Moss.
What do you do and what were you doing before this?
The West Loop typifies the best of urban redevelopment. It’s got in-built character pulled from it’s history that you can’t just build from scratch, and the business-people here really care about helping to make the West Loop a cool place to be. And despite all that development, it’s still such a neighborhood, too, where the locals know each other and people still stop on the street to talk.
Will you do anything special or unique for residents of the West Loop?
Yeah! If your family is in town we’ll get them off your couch for the night and deliver them back to you rested, de-stressed and ready to party!
What else could you share about yourself so the residents of the West Loop can get to know you a little better?
Kimberly and I are both good food, wine and conversation lovers. The way to our hearts is through an oyster happy hour!
