Last night, Alderman Brendan Reilly’s (42nd) office and Neighbors of West Loop hosted a community meeting at Old St. Patrick’s Church.
The purpose of the meeting was for Alderman Reilly and the residents to listen to the developer’s proposal to build a residential high rise building at the undeveloped lot south of the K2 building, located at approximately 352 N. Union. This is the planned development presented by the property ownership’s team.
The developer, Chicago Self Storage II LLC, is operated by a California firm named Gray Cardiff, according to state records obtained by DNA Chicago. The group needs a zoning change to move forward.
There were somewhere between 50 to 75 West Loop residents in attendance for the meeting and at least a dozen took advantage of the opportunity to ask questions.
To gain some perspective on the nuances of the development process, you may find it interesting to watch Brian Kidd, the architect who spoke at the community meeting, in this video by YoChicago, where Mr. Kidd discusses the K2 project he also worked on a few years ago.
The Neighbors of West Loop Development Committee will meet on Monday, November 9 to discuss this development project, along with others. We encourage you to let us know what you think about this and other projects on our Facebook page.
