Urbs in horto (city in garden) – the city motto for Chicago – is realized in the West Loop through numerous patches of green space and our six beautiful city parks:
- Fulton River Park
- Heritage Green Park
- Mary Bartelme Park
- Monroe Street Dog Park
- Skinner Park
- Union Park
Organizations within the West Loop, including Neighbors of West Loop, the Skinner Park Advisory Council, the Mary Bartelme Park Advisory Council, and the Union Park Advisory Council, and outside promoters hold events at these parks year-round. Examples include Easter egg hunts, movies in the parks, kiddie events, gardening courses, major international concerts, Halloween parties, and holiday tree-lighting ceremonies. In addition, these groups conduct regular “clean & green” events, where neighborhood volunteers come out to remove trash, spread mulch, plant new trees, and whatever else is needed to rejuvenate our parks.
Please contact Parks and Green Space Committee co-chairs May Toy or Leigh Wang if you would like to get more involved!
